IMPROVEMENTS TO STORM WATER DRAINAGE IN ZODIA/BOSTANCI BENEFIT 4,000 PEOPLE

The European Commission and the United Nations Development Programme - Partnership for the Future (UNDP-PFF) are pleased to announce the completion of the project for the improvement of the drainage system in the village of Zodia/Bostanci, in the northern part of Cyprus. This project is financed by the European Union under the Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community.

The new drainage system, built in response to the severe flooding of February 2010, benefits a community of 4,000 people living in the area.

The project included an assessment phase on the storm water drainage covering an area of 33 hectares, and the design of a new system with all its auxiliary structures. This included the installation of 850 meters of new pipes, 80 manholes and 70 gullies, and covers an area of 25 hectares.

The project - which cost approximately 110,000 Euros, has been implemented within the framework of the EU- funded project “Upgrading of local infrastructure" implemented by UNDP-PFF in selected villages and small towns in the northern part of Cyprus.
