Environmental Adviser

The United Nations Development Programme is seeking for its EU-funded Programme “Partnership for the Future (UNDP-PFF) high calibre candidates to fill the position of UNDP-PFF Environmental Adviser.

The Environmental Adviser will be requested to
  • Formulate project proposals addressing the needs of the Turkish-Cypriot community in the area of environmental protection and sustainable development in accordance with the EU Acquis;
  • Monitor the implementation of these proposals once endorsed by the PFF Senior Managers;
  • Monitor and evaluate project progress and produce the related reports on a monthly basis;
  • Provide substantive and organizational support for the preparation of seminars and workshops on the various aspects of the Acquis;
  • Assist in the identification of experts, contractors and partner organizations for the undertaking of the activities related to the PFF mandate on environmental-related issues;
  • Ensure the consistency of the PFF environmental related activities with the EU and UNDP best practices;
  • Assist in liaising with PFF stakeholders on environmental related issues;

Qualifications and experience

The candidate should possess an advanced degree in environmental studies and related fields. Post-graduate studies would be an asset. At least 5 years of practical work experience in the environmental field, policy formulation, sustainable development issues or other related fields in either a public or private sector framework. Knowledge of the EU environmental policies and related-Acquis communautaire is a Must. Familiarity with the UN systems and procedures highly desirable.

Language: Fluent written and spoken English. Knowledge of Turkish would be an added advantage.
